Will My Breasts Feel Normal after a Breast Augmentation? (Part 1)
A perfectly natural question we often get from our Beverly Hills breast augmentation clients is whether or not their breast implants will feel natural after undergoing a breast augmentation. Understandably, most women don’t want their implants to feel foreign or unnatural. Most women start to forget they even have implants after a few weeks after breast augmentation because their breast implants simply feel as if they are a normal part of their body. How breast implants feel after breast augmentation surgery though depends on a variety of factors. We’ll talk about silicone vs. saline and over or under muscle implantation in this blog…
- Silicone vs. Saline: Silicone implants are softer than saline from the get go. Therefore, they tend to feel more natural sooner after the breast augmentation compared to saline breast implants. However, saline implants don’t necessary feel unnatural…they just takes a little longer to get used to compared silicone. This is especially true if the implants are placed high on the chest during breast augmentation as saline breast implants typically are. The density of the silicone is what makes silicone breast implants feel the most natural since our breasts aren’t just salt water, which is what saline implants basically are. You can easily tell the difference when you hold each breast implant in your hand. Most of our clients in Beverly Hills chose silicone breast implants for their breast augmentation for this reason.
- Putting the breast implant over the muscle vs. under the muscle: First off, you should know that placing breast implants over the top of the chest muscles is not possible for everyone. Only those who do not have enough natural breast tissue to cover the implants and require the muscle as soft tissue coverage need to have implants put under the muscle. Breast implants placed over the chest muscles are more likely to feel normal sooner because the muscle does not need to be stretched out like they are when the implants are put underneath the muscles. When the implant is under the muscles you are more likely to be reminded of them because when you flex your chest muscles, they will slightly change the shape of the implant as the muscle contracts over them. This, however, goes away when the muscle is relaxed and most of our Beverly Hills plastic surgery clients tell us they get used to it and barely notice it after a while.
