What Is Restylane?

Restylane is a dermal filler that is used to add volume to the skin and correct facial wrinkles and folds, like the ones that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, often known as the “nasolabial fold.” Restylane is a biodegradable, non-animal-based, hyaluronic acid used as a dermal filler to restore volume and fullness to the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body, and Restylane is completely biocompatible. Among all the dermal fillers used today, Restylane actually has one of the longest track records for being safe.

How Does Restylane Work?

Unlike BOTOX® Cosmetic, which softens the skin by reducing muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, Restylane interacts directly with your skin, filling in the wrinkles and folds or adding volume to a region of the face, as with lip augmentation. Restylane’s dermal filler is not permanent, so it will be slowly broken down and absorbed by the body.

This process generally takes between six and 12 months, but depends on the location treated and the injection technique used. For instance, injections to soften the groove below the lower eyelid can last up to a year, whereas injections into the lips can sometimes dissipate in less than six months. Having a second treatment before the product has fully dissipated may enhance the effect, and also requires a much smaller amount for the second treatment.

What Are Common Uses for Restylane?

During your consultation, Dr. Hovsepian will talk you through the various options that might help you accomplish your personal cosmetic goals. He’ll go over the different ways to enjoy the results you’ve come to us for, and most commonly uses Restylane for treating:

  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Hollows above and below the eyelids
  • Hollows in the temporal area
  • Sagging eyebrows
  • Chin folds
  • Acne scars
  • Nasal deformities
  • Contour deformities
  • Soft-tissue atrophy

How Is the Restylane Treatment Performed?

Topical Comfort

Prior to your Restylane procedure, the treatment area is numbed with a topical or injectable anesthetic. No sedation or heavy anesthesia is required for this quick and minimally invasive procedure.

Quick Injections

Restylane is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with the use of a very fine needle, and then you’re on your way! The entire process only takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

No Recovery!

You won’t have any real recovery period, beyond a bit of redness and some tenderness in the treatment area. For some patients, it may be appropriate to combine Restylane® with another skincare or rejuvenation treatment.

Address Deeper Folds with Restylane® Lyft

Restylane Lyft is a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid gel, which means it contains absolutely no animal products. Since hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, Restylane Lyft is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. Another member of the Restylane family, Restylane Lyft is a similar dermal filler, but brings to the table a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, making it effective when used for deeper folds.

How Does Restylane Lyft Work?

Restylane Lyft works very similarly to Restylane. It effectively addresses aging issues by filling in wrinkles and adding volume to the face. Because it is not derived from animal tissues, it poses no risk of allergy and can thus be injected without any prior testing.

Similar to Restylane, Restylane Lyft is not a permanent dermal filler, and your body will slowly break it down and re-absorb it within about six to 12 months. The exact amount of time this takes, however, will depend on the location of the treatment area and the injection technique used.

Injections to soften the groove below the lower eyelids, for example, can last longer than a year, while injections into the lips can dissipate in less than six months. Coming back for a second treatment can enhance your results and require a much smaller injection amount.

How Is Restylane Lyft Treatment Performed?

The Restylane Lyft procedure is surprisingly quick and easy. Dr. Hovsepian will carefully inject the compound into the treatment area in tiny amounts with the use of a very fine needle. Before your treatment, we'll apply a topical or injectable anesthetic, to numb the area and keep you completely comfortable (no sedation or heavy anesthesia is required).

MEET THE RESTYLANE® COLLECTION

The Restylane Collection can help reveal a younger-looking you by providing natural-looking results by smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. It also helps to add volume to lips for subtle lip enhancement while smoothing the lines around them. And for those looking for more fullness to the cheeks, midface area, and the back of the hands, Restylane will help create a natural-looking and overall youthful appearance.

RESTYLANE

Restylane adds volume and fullness to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid acts like your body's naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Additionally, Restylane is FDA-approved for lip enhancement in patients over the age of 21 and is uniquely formulated to give your lips youthful fullness and definition.

KYSSE

Lips lose volume, color, and elasticity due to aging. Restylane Kysse is the first lip filler designed with XpresHAn Technology™, which cross-links gel for precise and natural volume. This lip filler adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to one year, and enhances lip color. Designed specifically for the movement of lips, Restylane Kysse gives you kissable volume and softness while maintaining a full range of expressions.

DEFYNE

Also featuring XpresHAn Technology™, Restylane Defyne helps smooths deep laugh lines and can enhance chin projection. As we age, our skin loses elasticity, causing the lines along the side of the face and mouth to become more pronounced. Loss of elasticity also causes the chin to recede so far back toward the neck that it creates an imbalance of facial features. This hyaluronic acid filler uses innovative cross-linking technology to help restore a more youthful appearance while maintaining your natural expressions and movement.

SILK

The lips and the lines around the mouth are some of the first to show signs of aging, causing lip thinning, lost shape, and increased vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is designed to provide natural-looking results in these areas using smaller and smoother hyaluronic acid particles than in other Restylane products. Your skin will appear plump and fresh without looking overfilled.

LYFT

Natural fat deteriorates with age, resulting in sagging skin, more prominent wrinkles, and reduced volume. Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L®, corrects volume loss and treats wrinkles on the face and hands. This gel filler is specifically designed to add fullness to the cheeks, midface area, and the back of the hands, completing your youthful aesthetic.
