Can rhinoplasty surgery affect your smile?
Because the nose is a focal point of the face, rhinoplasty surgery in Beverly Hills has been, and will continue to be, one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed. A common fear for many rhinoplasty candidates is if their smile will change as a result of their rhinoplasty. Since a rhinoplasty restores balance and harmony to the face, it would certainly be a valid concern that in correcting a hooked nose that you hate it may affect the appearance of your smile.
There are muscles in your nose that are connected to the muscles in your upper lip. So depending on the type of rhinoplasty you are having, it may be part of the procedure to release or free up those muscles. A procedure to correct a bump in the bridge of the nose may not affect those muscles, so when you have your Consultation with Dr. Hovsepian, he will review the procedure and discuss how the surgery not only affects your nose, but also surrounding areas such as the eyes, cheeks, and lips. In general, your nose is going to be swollen and impacted for 2-3 weeks following surgery, and you can likely expect your smile to be affected by that swelling during that time. It may look and feel unnatural, but that is not unexpected. You don’t necessarily have to avoid smiling during that time either. The muscles in the lip and nose affected by the surgery will heal and you should expect everything to return back to normal. Patients have expressed concern that they will look “tight” or “unnatural” but that is not a typical issue following a rhinoplasty. Don’t be afraid to smile post rhinoplasty. Contact Dr. Hovsepian in his Beverly Hills office to schedule a consultation for your rhinoplasty and look forward to the positive results from your surgery and all the compliments to come. You’ll have lots of chances to flash that natural smile of yours.
