Be Ready for These Things Following Breast Augmentation Surgery
Swelling: As with nearly all plastic surgery procedures, there will be post-operative bruising in the treated area. In the case of breast augmentation, this is perfectly normal but there are ways to reduce the discomfort. Be prepared before your procedure with a cold compress to apply to the treated area for a few days after the breast augmentation surgery. You may also need to wear special post-operative clothing to protect your results and reduce discomfort. Generally, swelling subsides over the course of the first four weeks.
Bruising: Another normal side-effect of a breast augmentation is bruising. Dr. Hovsepian will help you understand what level of bruising is normal, and if you experience more bruising than you’re expecting, feel free to call Dr. Hovsepian. Bruising usually reduces in appearance almost entirely over the first three weeks of the recovery process.
Soreness: It’s perfectly normal for our Beverly Hills breast augmentation patients to experience mild to moderate soreness in the treated area for about a week after the procedure. Dr. Hovsepian will prescribe pain relievers, but if you believe you are suffering from pain more than the normal amount contact Dr. Hovsepian immediately.
Drains: In certain cases, drains will be required to remove excess fluid from the treated area around the implants. The drains are usually not required for more than a week and in most cases are removed after two or three days.
Stitches/Sutures: It is important to keep sutures/stitches clean and dry for the entirety of the recovery process. Dr. Hovsepian gives each of his Beverly Hills breast implant patients clear and detailed instructions, but in general patients need to refrain from soaking the incision for the first eight weeks and a shower is not advised until at least 24 hours after the procedure.
No matter what procedure you are interested in, Dr. Hovsepian can answer all of your questions and make sure you’re comfortable with your procedure plan. Schedule a consultation today!
