Male breast reduction, also known as correction of gynecomastia, surgically reduces the size of the male breast. Gynecomastia correction primarily involves the reduction of glandular, fatty tissue through surgical removal. This technique is used in conjunction with liposuction of any surrounding fatty tissue to achieve an ideal result.
Male breast reduction (gynecomastia) surgery is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be completely asleep and feel nothing during surgery. The surgery takes a few hours, although you should expect to spend extra time in the operating room if your procedure will focus on multiple areas. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but some patients prefer an overnight stay. Out-of-town patients may stay in a near-by hotel or aftercare facility, where a "private duty" nurse is available if required. Afterward, you will return to your home, hotel or aftercare facility conveniently located a short distance from the surgical center.
