Recovering from Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills
If you’re considering a rhinoplasty (a.k.a. nose job) don’t be alarmed at what you may have heard about the recovery period. While it is longer than some procedures, it’s definitely worth it and here at Dr. Hovsepian’s office in Beverly Hills we will be sure you are comfortable before, during and after the procedure. However, it’s always best to be prepared so here are a few tidbits about the rhinoplasty recovery period.
First you should know that the actual surgery to correct the shape of your nose is just the beginning. Your nose will undergo significant changes in the first 2 to 12 weeks following the rhinoplasty. As the swelling gradually dissipates the appearance of the nose changes and before you know it, you’ll be looking at your beautiful new nose in the mirror. For the first week your nose will be in a cast/splint. This is there to protect the nose and help control the swelling.
The nose will appear puffy or swollen for several weeks to a couple of months even after the cast/splint is removed. Don’t be discouraged, this is totally normal. A lot of our Beverly Hills plastic surgery clients take a little vacation or “staycation” so they avoid most social encounters until their new nose is ready for the reveal. If you’ve had work done on a hump on your nose, you’ll also have a little more swelling over that area. It will not stay that way, though. It’s just the body’s way of healing. The boney hump you once had is permanently gone, what you see after surgery is just some soft tissue swelling that is temporary.
To help with the swelling a lot of surgeons will tape the bridge of the nose and the supratip (the area above the tip) like an athlete would tape his/her ankle, etc… The tape helps compress the area, reducing the amount of swelling and often the amount of discomfort following rhinoplasty. Some of our clients in Beverly Hills will use the tape for the first 4-6 months following their procedure.
