Choosing the Right Implant Type and Size
Before undergoing a breast augmentation it is important you choose the implant that best suits your desires and the right size that will boost your esteem and make you feel comfortable.
Your doctor will help you decide on the right size that best fits your body type. In this case bigger isn’t always better. You want to pick a size that will be right for your body and your proportions, while still gaining the confidence and look you want.
Once you know what size is right for you, it is time to pick the right implant. Saline vs. Silicone, which is better? They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Saline
Saline is sterile salt water. The implant is first inserted through a small incision and then filled while inside your body. The fact that the implant is filled with saline is a benefit in case of a leak. Saline is naturally absorbed by the body, so if this implant ruptures, there is no immediate medical emergency, as the body will absorb the implant. You will need to have the shell removed surgically and these implants are generally available to women 18 years or older.
Silicone
Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel and then implanted into the body. This type of implant mimics the feel of the breast tissue; therefore, giving the breast a more natural feel and look than the saline counterpart. If this type of implant ruptures the silicone usually is trapped within the tissue around the implant, making this rupture not as noticeable. This can cause breast pain or changes in shape and will need to be removed surgically. With this implant it is recommended to receive MRI scans, about every 2 years, to be sure not silent ruptures are occurring. This implant is available to women 22 years old or older.
